Top Books For Inspiration

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Have you ever come across a book that feels like it was written just for you? For me, Elizabeth Gilbert’s "Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear" was exactly that—a sparkly little beacon that spoke right to my creative and practical heart. I’ve read it, listened to the audiobook (four times, no less), and honestly, it just keeps giving. That's why it's one of my top books for inspiration. Every time I dive in, I feel like I’m getting a pep talk from a wise, funny friend who’s been through it all and is here to remind me: "Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?"

So, here’s the deal: "Big Magic" is not just a book—it’s like a creative survival kit. Gilbert’s voice is warm, funny, and so real, it feels like she’s sitting right next to you with a cup of tea (or wine, depending on the mood).

She has this amazing way of making big, life-changing ideas feel totally doable, like letting go of fear or giving yourself permission to just go for it.

One of the coolest things about this book is how it makes you rethink fear. Gilbert doesn’t tell you to fight it or banish it (good luck with that). Instead, she’s like, "Hey, fear’s coming along for the ride. Just don’t let it drive the car." That little mindset shift? Total game-changer. It’s helped me stop overthinking everything and just start playing around with ideas.

She talks about ideas as these magical little beings that float around looking for someone to bring them to life. If they pick you, awesome! But if you ignore them, they might move on to someone else.

Here are three big lessons that really hit home for me:

1. Fear is not the enemy, but a companion: Instead of letting fear boss me around, I’ve learned to let it sit in the backseat. It’s there, but it’s not running the show.

2. Perfection is overrated: Seriously, trying to be perfect all the time is exhausting. Gilbert’s advice to approach creativity with curiosity and playfulness has been a breath of fresh air.

3. Ideas are alive: Thinking of ideas as living entities has made me more proactive. When inspiration knocks, I answer—even if I’m not sure where it’s going to lead.

Oh, and if you’re into audiobooks, the version narrated by Gilbert herself is pure gold. It feels like she’s cheering you on every step of the way. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite "pick-me-ups" when I need a little boost to get out of my own head and back into the creative flow.
